Les Webb has accepted the Musical Director position at Marple Band after taking two concerts and rehearsing the band last December. The player’s have been delighted to welcome Les to the band and he has settled in very quickly both musically and socially. Les has played in a number of top bands and will continue as Principal Trombone with the Fairey Band.
Originally from south London, moving “up north” to study at the RNCM and MMU. He currently works as a brass teacher in the Oldham area. His conducting career started on 2005 with a five year spell at the forth section band, Eccles Borough. Guiding them through a number of contest wins and promotion to the third section. Les also tutors and conducts at Stockport Schools Band developing the players of tomorrow.
The band is looking forward to working with such a high calibre musician.
Brassed Off!

The Band will be appearing at the Carver Theatre this May, 9 performances in total of the stage play of Brassed Off. Tickets available from the Carver Theatre.
Slow Melody Results

On Boxing Day at the Ring O’ Bells pub in Marple, 7 entrants took part in the annual Brass Bands of Marple Slow Melody Contest. Having successfully resurrected this event in 2010, it was decided to continue the tradition in 2011.
The entrants were:
Mark Singleton (Trombone) – Romanza,
Tom Barnett (Trumpet) – Hummel Trumpet Concerto 2nd movement
Gillian Spragg (Tenor Horn) - The Swan
Paul Beetham Eb bass – The Armed Man,
Jim Murray (B flat Cornet ) – The Sunshine of Your Smile
Matthew Hill (Euphonium) - The Swan
Ruth Simmutch (Flugel) - Concerto de Aranjuez

Congratulations to the winners and many thanks to Mark Singleton for the use of the Ring o' Bells and to all who took part and helped to make this yet another successful and enjoyable contest. The event will be repeated on Boxing Day 2012.
