Since March 2020 the band have been unable to play together but have been meeting socially online. Last Autumn, Shelby Sutton produced a couple of online musical collaborations for the band: ‘Ravenswood’ and ‘A Christmas Dream’.We were fortunate to be able to do some socially distanced carolling in December 2020 and the band thoroughly enjoyed entertaining the residents of Brabyns, Arbour Court and Marple Lodge Care Home with Christmas Carols, the weather was kind to the band whilst they performed in the grounds of the homes. They then played carols for the Marple community on Market street.
The band also played outside the Co op as a thank you for their fantastic support as one of their chosen local charities which has enabled us to update our music library, buy a couple of new uniforms and contribute towards the purchase of a new euphonium. The public joined in with the carols and it was great to see so many happy people after a very difficult year for all concerned.
February saw the band start tentative online rehearsals. These continued throughout March and April. After the lockdown rules were relaxed and rehearsing indoors was finally permitted in May. The band held its first live rehearsal for over 14 months on Friday 21st May in The Methodist Church in Marple where the band could easily socially distance and follow the Covid guidelines. The band would like to thank the church for letting them use this for their very first rehearsal.
The next few weeks will be spent rehearsing in the newly decorated function room at the Marple Conservative Club. We would like to thank Marie for her help in ensuring this was possible. We would like to welcome anyone who would be interested in joining the band to come to a rehearsal to find out what we do. The rehearsals are currently only on Fridays from 8-10pm. However, once the road map from the government opens up more fully we will be returning to our band room in Memorial Park and will then be back to two rehearsals a week.
