Players Wanted

It’s great news that we have welcomed several new players but, due to work/life commitments, we still would like to fill a few chairs.

Are you after a new band / new challenge, or a player who has recently relocated to the Stockport area? If so, please get in touch and come to one of our rehearsals. We welcome keen and accomplished players to join a friendly band with a good, manageable balance of concerts and contests. If you are interested in joining a dynamic and fun band, please contact our Bandmaster Howard Groves.

Rotary Club Donation

The band would like to thank The Marple and New Mills Rotary Club for their generous donation of £250 to help towards the cost of replacing one of the bands Tenor Horns.

Howard and Ruth Groves were invited, on behalf of the band, to one of their meetings at lunchtime on Thursday 17th January to receive the cheque from their President, Mike Coleman.

Some of the bands instruments are beginning to look and sound very tired, with many being over 30 years old. We are fundraising to replace them, with the immediate priorities being a Tenor Horn and a Cornet.

The Marple Band Welcomes….

Following a recent recruitment campaign, we are pleased to welcome some new faces into the band.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Nadia James as Principal Cornet. Nadia is 15 and started learning to play cornet at the age of seven, joining both the Winterley Brass Band and Cooperative Wind Band in Crewe. After performing with Crewe Brass at the Areas in 2016, she then joined them on back row, gradually progressing to 2nd solo cornet.

Nadia has been in the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain for the last three years and is 3rd Principal at Foden’s Youth Band. She passed Grade 8 cornet with distinction at the age of 14 and hopes go on to study music at RNMC. Nadia stated, “I am really excited to have been given the opportunity to play with The Marple Band“.

In recent weeks, Julia Robinson has rejoined the band, in the Repiano seat, during a break in her travels; with Charlotte Arnfield joining on 2nd Cornet and Mike Brooks filling the 3rd Cornet position.

We are still in the hunt for another front row Cornet, permanent Repiano, a 2nd Horn, Solo Baritone, E♭ Bass, B♭ Bass and percussionist, so please get in touch if you’d like to be part of historic and well known band of affable musicians. Please contact or Bandmaster on:
