The Marple Band were delighted to perform at their first official event since March 2020 on Sunday 11th July and the sun shone all afternoon to make it a memorable return to brass banding. The band entertained the teams and spectators at Compstall Cricket Clubs 150th Birthday celebrations. They played before the start of the cricket match against MCC and then during the break for tea. They played some superb new music, some of which had been purchased from the Co ops Community Fund that the band had received in 2020, this included Bohemian Rhapsody. The band also played an arrangement by our very talented Bass Trombone player Steve Sutton of Chitty, Chitty Bang, Bang. Other music on the programme included: Beyond the Sea, Memory, The Great Escape and the ever popular Floral Dance.
The band have been rehearsing online since February 2021 and then at the start of May the band have been able to have live rehearsals every Friday night in a Covid secure manner at The Conservative Club in Marple. The band will be rehearsing there until they are able to return to their band room. The band would like to thank the Conservative Club for making the rehearsals possible, especially Marie. The band are excited to be playing at their first official live event on July 11th at Compstall Cricket Club.
Unfortunately due to the changing circumstances of several band members over the last year we are needing to recruit some new players.
The band are, therefore, looking for an Eb Bass and Bb Bass player, Baritone, 2nd Horn, 2nd Trombone, Front and back row cornets – dependent on experience, and a drum kit player to join our successful band. If you think you have what it takes to play in our band which was newly promoted to the 1st Section at the start of 2020, please get in touch.
Since March 2020 the band have been unable to play together but have been meeting socially online. Last Autumn, Shelby Sutton produced a couple of online musical collaborations for the band: ‘Ravenswood’ and ‘A Christmas Dream’.We were fortunate to be able to do some socially distanced carolling in December 2020 and the band thoroughly enjoyed entertaining the residents of Brabyns, Arbour Court and Marple Lodge Care Home with Christmas Carols, the weather was kind to the band whilst they performed in the grounds of the homes. They then played carols for the Marple community on Market street.Continue Reading

Rehearsals are industrious, but lots of fun, at our own, purpose-built band room in Marple. We can provide an instrument or you can use you own. And you would be part of a friendly, affable team with plenty of post-finale socialising opportunities!
We look forward to hearing from you.
